I’m a big fan of flexibility. . In the past I’ve set a policy (often based on something I saw or just what I thought it should be) then I stuck to whatever I’ve written even if it meant I missed a sale. . Listen. . It’s hard to win clients, and it’s even harder if you are inflexible, dig your heals in and act like Scrooge. . Give your policies a tune up often. . Look at what’s working and, more importantly, analyze what’s blocking your sales.
Readjust if at possible, and for goodness sakes get over yourself. . None of us are the end-all-be-all of “perfect policy setting”. . Especially me. 🙋🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ . Do WRITE policies so you at least have a starting point, then LISTEN to what the market is telling you and REWRITE accordingly. . Case in point: My rental policy at the bungalow is a 2hr minimum, but I’ve had many (at least 10 photographers) say, “I don’t need two hours, so I guess I’ll figure something else out.” . I have a choice. Remain inflexible and dig my heals in, or lower it to 1 hr minimum. . I have to ask myself, will gaining the business of the 1 hour wonders be more advantageous than keeping the photogs that freely book for two? That’s a tough thing to calculate without giving it a try, so this morning, I changed it to 1 hr, and I set a reminder to reanalyze 3 months from today. . I’ll let ya know.😉 . In the meantime, are you losing sales because your policies are stiff as a board? Tell me. What’s something you know in your heart you should prolly change, but need a swift kick in the butt to do it?👇🏻
p.s. I love using my kids pics for business metaphors. This is Jaybird pitching this week for his college. He gets it from me.🙋🏻♀️😝 ... See MoreSee Less
Over and over again I see my fellow business owners undervaluing their time, giving their wisdom away and discounting their products to no end.- . When you’re a rock star, people notice, and we have to balance between giving freely (which i love doing) and running a profitable business.- . Have you read this or something similar in your inbox?- . “I’ve been following you for a while and love what you’re doing! Can you please meet up with me and let me treat you to coffee? I’d love to pick your brain because I want to do something like what you do.”- . Talk to me about similar requests you’ve received and how you straddled wanting to help help help and needing to simultaneously value your time.- . Hearing from y’all gets my juices flowing! . xo -Brooklyn ... See MoreSee Less
