My Top 10 Tips for Budding Entrepreneurs
…that I learned the hard way, so you don’t have to.
Number one.
Never second-guess your idea. There are no bad ideas, just bad execution. Try, try and try again.
Number two.
Don’t be afraid to constantly sling spaghetti on the wall. Eventually something will stick and what’s most important? –analyzing why it stuck. Once you figure that out, apply it to the next toss.
Number three.
No one cares as much about our business as you do. IF you find a trustworthy, hardworking cohort, treat them like gold. Seriously.
Number four.
Treat everyone as a potential client or a potential enemy. Sounds harsh, but this is the worst one to learn the hard way. No one is your friend in business.
Number five.
Policies and boundaries are difficult to set after the deal is underway. Set them early and adjust along the way as needed. Remember, you’re the boss. You call the shots.
Number six.
Negative reviews online can be the best thing that happens to your business. You are human, people want to see how you respond, and, if you treat your clients like precious gems, they’ll all come to your rescue.
Number seven.
Hire people to do the things you don’t want to do and the things that only have to be done once. Your time is more valuable that learning something you may only do once or doing laundry.
Number eight.
Less talky more worky. Pour your energy into your passion, competition will not be able to keep up. Tell yourself, “I’m a shark in a sea full of minnows.” It works.
Number nine.
Build your brand not your business. Be you online, in print, and in your product. People follow people. If you pivot to another chapter of sales, your clients who love you will pivot with you.
Number ten.
Dream big or go home. You were born with the goods to make it happen. Trust in that and have the grit and gumption to see it through. It’s hard, but very worth it.
